Holy Week Activities
Seder Supper - On Maundy Thursday, April 2nd, gather with us around tables in Fellowship Hall for a special remembrance of Passover and the Last Supper. The evening will include a covered dish supper and Holy Communion. Everything starts at 6:00 pm. Just bring a pot luck dish to share, dessert and beverages will be provided. To ensure enough seating please call the church office at 973-383-4420 or email us if you plan to attend.
Tenebrae Service - Good Friday, April 3rd, at 8:00 pm in the sanctuary. The service will include scripture readings and the gradual extinguishing of lights to symbolize Christ's crucifixion, death, and burial. If you have not experienced a Tenebrae service (Tenebrae means "shadows") we hope you might consider including this service as part of your Holy Week observance this year.
Lenten Opportunities at First Presbyterian Church of Newton
Lenten Study - Tuesdays during Lent from 10-11am in the Adult Study Room. "The Wired Word" an internet -based study comes out each week with a featured news story linked to Scripture and discussion questions. Weekly lessons are sent ahead of time via email or are available in print copy at the church for all interested in this study. To have your name added to weekly email, contact the church office at 973-383-4420 or by email address above.
Lenten Spirituality Center - The Spirituality Center is open whenever the church is open throughout the season of Lent. Located in the choir room directly across from the Adult Study room, the Spirituality Center gives you an opportunity to spend time drawing near to God. There are 6 self-directed centers available to help foster spirituality in a vareiety of ways including creative prayer stations, reflections, and artistic expressions of faith. No one needs to walk you through, simply follow the instructions set up at each station...or adapt them to fit your need or ability. Visit one or two centers in a visit or all six at one time, depending on your preference and schedule. No matter your age - all are welcome and invited to join in!
(Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.)
